Tilapia is a very common fish eaten in the Philippines. I remember it being fried very crispy, whole. It didn't get very popular in the U.S. until about 10 years ago. I only saw them being carried in the Filipino stores prior to that.

Then I started seeing them being sold in the regular grocery stores for .99 cents per fish. Today, I see them on sale for 4.99 - 5.99 a pound!
